There is a dramatic increase in concern recently about the health effects of formaldehyde on the human body comes, in part, from a concern about the amount of formaldehyde in some of the United States’ lumber supply. A recent 60 Minutes episode exposed a lumber company as having “over the legal limit” levels of formaldehyde in their products. Formaldehyde in your floor?

Formaldehyde is a chemical commonly found in manufactured goods such as flooring materials. Some manufacturing materials may contain formaldehyde, ie wood. Typically, it is the glue used in the manufacturing process that contains the formaldehyde and although the off-gassing will diminish over time, there may be elevated levels until the process is complete.
